1656 Adanac Street Groundbreaking Ceremony

September 12, 2025

What a great day to celebrate Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society's 40 years of community, connection and home with the groundbreaking of our 1656 Adanac Street project and the announcement of 400 new affordable rental homes in Metro Vancouver!

“More new rentals are being built than ever, and since 2017 in Metro Vancouver, almost 10,500 homes have been opened to give people a place to build their futures,” said Christine Boyle, Minister of Housing and Municipal Affairs. “These latest 400 affordable homes will bring added stability and opportunity, helping even more people find a place to call home in the communities they love."

Thank you, Minister Christine Boyle, MLA; Joan Phillip, Vancouver Deputy Mayor; Lenny Zhou, City of Vancouver Councillor; Lucy Maloney and Peter Meiszner, BC Housing and Vancity Community Foundation, for celebrating with us today!

We appreciate your significant financial contributions that have made this 97-unit affordable rental project a reality! We are excited to welcome returning and new residents, particularly women-led households, gender-diverse individuals, single-parent families, seniors, people with disabilities, and those from equity-deserving groups, to a new 6-storey building on Adanac Street in the Grandview Woodland community in a few years' time.

“Breaking ground at 1656 Adanac Street is a proud and powerful moment for Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society—it’s where our journey began by three single mothers with a dream of providing affordable housing for women and families in Vancouver,” said Lilian Chau, CEO, Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society. “Thanks to BC Housing and the City of Vancouver, we’re not just building homes—we’re continuing a 40-year legacy of community, equity, and possibility for generations to come.”

Congratulations to our non-profit colleagues on their successful projects: Hollyburn Family Services, Community Land Trust, M Kopernik (Nicolaus Copernicus) Foundation, and VRS Communities! For full details of the projects, go here: BC Gov News
