Named for Constance Murphy

Constance Court is named after Constance Murphy, the mother of Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society's original member, Derek Murphy. Born in Amsterdam in 1913, Constance was a public health nurse specializing in caring for children with disabilities. During World War II, she continued her work in Holland despite the deep poverty and military oppression. After the war, she worked in refugee camps in Germany, where she met and married her husband, a medical and mental health services director. Their family lived and worked in several countries before moving to the U.S. in 1957 and later to Montreal in 1959, seeking greater social stability. Constance remained deeply committed to social justice, returning to school at 65 to earn a Diploma in Gerontology and dedicating herself to supporting isolated seniors. Her lifelong advocacy for human rights and community service reflects Entre Nous Femmes Housing Society's social justice and empowerment work, supporting those most vulnerable to ensure everyone has a home and an opportunity to thrive.
